For women who developed a fear of men in shorts, this post from The Sartorialist’s Scott Schuman will make you change your mind. It started as a trend last year and this year it rather became part of the mainstream. How many times you’ve seen men putting so much efforts in wearing a short and the result is usually pretty bad. Guys, I’d suggest you to look at this best practice of Summer shorts which had a great success among the feminine population.
Junya Watanabe also depicts in his Spring 2010 collection the trend with inventive tailoring a collection showing dressy outfits for men who love shorts.

Charles Baudelaire, in his later phase of dandyism defined the dandy as one who elevates æsthetics to a living religion. The dandy’s mere existence reproaches the responsible citizen of the middle class: “Dandyism in certain respects comes close to spirituality and to stoicism” and “These beings have no other status, but that of cultivating the idea of beauty in their own persons, of satisfying their passions, of feeling and thinking… Contrary to what many thoughtless people seem to believe, dandyism is not even an excessive delight in clothes and material elegance. For the perfect dandy, these things are no more than the symbol of the aristocratic superiority of his mind.”
So what makes a Dandy? There is no single look, unless you count the louche dandy in lush fabrics that looked like necktie silks. But if you don’t fancy wearing your tie as trousers, you can just hang it askew round a small-collared shirt – or team a cool and easy short-sleeved shirt with a vest. There were innovative silhouettes, like Fred Astaire’s look of tight – waist pants but completed with a drawn-on moustache, or melon-shaped sleeves on a belted coat. (more…)

That is certainly an old news but I’ve just recently known about this Vogue editorial, I was really shocked to have missed that one to be honest. Vogue Paris celebrated the iconic Chanel bag (“le sac”) in its March 2009 issue with this glamour shoot photographed by Patrick Demarchelier. In this editorial you’ll find some of the most popular and mythic Chanel bags that made the Parisian house so iconic.
19 years old Lithuanian model Edita Vilkeviciute is wearing nothing but Chanel. The “jeune bourgeoise parisienne” style and the shower of accessories is just amazing.

London is probably my second favorite city in the world, mostly for its iconic sense of style and shopping. You’ve probably been on a shopping spree across Kings Road, Camden town, and Carnaby street and felt the Fashion spirit that embraces these 3 distinctive areas.
Even though we’ve just entered Summer and we should be talking about Fall styles preview… I’ve discovered this edgy-chic collection designed by the iconic British house. Ben Sherman’s new Spring/Summer collection was inspired by the iconic fashionable landmarks of London, known by their style and music. Evoking the 60’s classic with a nod to the punk era and the tailoring breathes a contemporary prep school style. The collection sets the tone with deck-chair striped blazers and the re-invention of the iconic button down polo.
Key looks for men include tartan shirts with mini collars, asymmetric biker jackets and skinny check trousers. Deep V neck knits in vertical stripes look great worn under tailored bombers or cropped double-breasted Macs.
For women, sexy pencil skirts and super snug dresses in Prince of Wales check. High-waisted shorts and skinny trousers further enhance the silhouette with an emphasis on a cinched figure. Heritage chequerboard patterning is used subtly on knitwear styles and military references (Balmain?) can be spotted throughout the season. Macs, leather biker jackets and blazers form an integral part of the range for those chillier summer nights.

Wondering what’s the most fashion forward swimsuit to wear at the beach? Retro one pieces are dominating swim fashion for summer 2009 as reported on the fashion runways. Designer Michael Kors is probably one of those designers that think conservative mean more fun! This summer make big statements with a vintage or retro-style swimsuit, like the striped swimsuit pictured above. You can find this navy blue and white spandex at this superb Etsy store called ladramaqueen. The LA-based designer may have been very inspired by the current trend on the beaches of Los Angeles.

Lacoste’s clothes are now fun to wear thanks to the recent ad campaigns and the new brand positioning. I like the new direction they’ve taken: the new collections are fun, colorful and energetic. A brand that decided to push its boundaries from seriousness to a more casual/preppy vibe. Here the models look like having tons of fun in the newest spring/summer ‘09 campaign. The campaign was shot by Terry Richardson, the models jump up in the air and use fans as props. Make sure to watch the making off video above to see how the fun images were taken. (more…)
