When Football Meets Fashion

From left to right: Natasha Poly, Lily Donaldson, Isabeli Fontana, Anna Selezneva, Abbey Lee Kershaw and Jac

The Superbowl is – probably – the biggest and most celebrated day in America. Hard to miss the exhilirating craze on this Sunday with everyone giving support to its favorite team, cheering with pitchers of beers and dismissing his food diet for a day. On the fashion side, we already have a winning team and MVP when looking at Alexander Wang’s classic football-inspired collection for this Spring 2010 which has led to a large victory per the critics and fashionista ecstatic reviews.

If you want to dress on a Football-istic note without having to embrace the sportswear look, you can also get your hands on these cool accessories.

Tiger Of Sweden S/S 2010 by Oscar Spendrup

One of my favorite Swedish brand, Tiger of Sweden, has been around for long enough to perfect the men’s suit and tailoring into fashionable and affordable streetwear clothes for men and women. The Spring/Summer collection is the perfection of elegant juxtapositions of surprising colors and prints. Any Tiger of Sweden items look sharp incorporating modern/minimal shapes and a rock’n'roll twist. The collection is largely dominated with blue hues for men and red for women. I love stripes and I am pretty excited to see a come back in a fashionably manner on the men’s collection. The styling in the ad campaign shot by Oscar Spendrup is quite excellent. I think the white trouser and double-button jacket, with striped shirt underneath is a classic yet really elegant ensemble. In the collection for women, I see a lot of printed separate outfits including shiny sleek fabrics. Specially like the sexy floral printed dress above and the mini-short suits. Definitely a great line for the dapper guy and an elegant jet-set woman.

You can watch the full lookbook of Tiger of Sweden S/S 2010 on their flickr.

Jimmy Choo S/S 2010 campaign: Angela Lindvall (by Terry Richardson??)

Model: Angela Lindvall

Sexy as always, Angela Lindvall is on her third season in a row for Jimmy Choo. This Spring 2010 campaign is not yet credited but we assume it’s Terry behind the lens. For once, I have the feeling the ad is focusing more on Angela’s fantastic body beauty rather than the shoes and bags (which are sexy too). Overall the campaign seems to lean toward a different attitude and mood, more mature and refined – just wondering how this campaign will impact the sales.

Chanel Haute Couture S/S 2010 – Ethereal baroque

When looking at the Chanel Haute Couture collection in Paris today, I had mixed feelings depending on the different angles I was observing it. Karl Lagerfeld had apparently one night “an electronic flash in my head at five o’clock one morning. Silver and pastel“. A dream that led him to design a futuristic and baroque concept transforming classic Chanel tweed suits and dresses into Grecian goddess gowns from a parallel world. Despite the fact the inspiration and execution sound strange to me (culottes and unflattering suits…), I liked the aesthetic of the whole collection (note: not black and gold!). Like a Neverending movie, the atmosphere was ethereal, dreamy and futuristic just by looking at the pillars lined the catwalk with fluorescent rainbows.  Out of the 6 collections Karl did in the past year, this is probably my  least favorite and the boldest one as well – and really hated the Gaga-esque hairstyle. What I really enjoyed was to watch the collection from small mobile cameras which added this grainy/blurry quality onto the pictures and recreate the ethereal atmosphere.

Nevertheless the collection has generated a lot of buzz today, I will rather let the debate go between pros and cons while I will be dreaming about other things.

Prada S/S 2010: Rasa Zukauskaite by Steven Meisel

Model: Rasa Zukauskaite - Photographer: Steven Meisel

Prada reinventing Prada. Photographed by Steven Meisel, the new Prada S/S 2010 ad campaign is looking more juvenile than ever with the popular model Rasa Zukauskaite from the Spring Fashion Weeks. Bright red lips and ponytails (wonder where they put the lollipop), the Prada woman is a sexy lolita accessory-holic. Featuring the looks from the Spring 2010 Fashion show, the aesthetic of the campaign is graceful and poetic like an ad from the 50’s. The omnipresent accessories is definitely an obvious strategy from the brand to reach a younger and approachable target with an extensive line of accessories which are all looking amazing – don’t get me wrong.

Alexander McQueen S/S 2010 : Raquel Zimmermann by Nick Knight

Model: Raquel Zimmermann - Photographer: Nick Knight

If you have a phobia of snakes, you should probably stop now. The sexy and freaky new Spring campaign for Alexander McQueen is an explosion of colors nicely composed of colorful snakes striking the pose along with model Raquel Zimmermann. Not sure who is the star in the ad thinking how difficult it was to find Raquel’s face, the shoes were the first thing I had recognized and immediately identified as Alexander McQueen’s new campaign. Highly anticipated, this ad is actually a remake of the designer’s Spring/Summer show introduction video starring Raquel surrounded by long and scary snakes. Probably one of my favorite campaign of the season, and probably the only one with such an extended color palette that actually looks summery.

Fall 2010 Menswear Fashion Shows Paris Day 4 Highlights: “Magnifique”

Lanvin

“Magnifique.” That was the adjective I had in mind after looking at the whole Lanvin collection. I have to admit I’ve been quite a fan-boy of Lanvin – Albert Elbaz and menswear designer Lucas Ossendrijver for the past 2 years and I may sound very subjective in my critic. The apocalyptic and futuristic theme of the collection was unexpected by Lanvin, more used to a softer approach, but that collection was way bolder than Raf’s. Mixing Star Wars, Matrix and The Road, the items have streetwear chic shapes with textured and roughly refined coats and suits. The edgy tailoring is quite surprising, such as the frayed sweaters. Shaped for the end of the world, the collection integrates an utilitarian touch, the zipped-sleeves on the vests are quite amazing, love the python shoes and all the coats are simply fantastic. And have a look at the backpacks, isn’t it an anti-these of luxury but you look at those so enviously ?

As you may have guessed, this final day in Paris was not that great of a day. I mean relatively speaking yes it was sinceI was literally blown away by the Lanvin show. But all the other shows of the day were mostly plain and boring on a design “subjective” point of view. If you feel that a collection deserved a review, feel free to let me know – I’d be happy to reconsider looking at it once again.

Alrighty! So Menswear Fashion weeks are over, today Couture shows started in Paris and in three weeks Fall 2010 Fashion Week is back in NYC! So stay tuned, don’t forget to subscribe to the RSS feed or my newsletter. Also, BIC NEWS – shockingly – I am about to enter the Twitter world to share real-time news alerts, the type of junk-food news alerts that fit in 140 characters everyone is sucked into but sooo amazing!

To finish this coverage of the menswear collections, I have one word to say: “Bravo!”

Haute-sneakers – Dior Homme Spring 2010

As seen on the runway

After succeeding to Slimane in 2007, former assistant Kris Van Assche has begun to put his own signature to Dior Homme. More minimalist and casual, you may disagree but I consider his line a little sportswear just by looking at how Kris emphasized volumes. The new Dior Homme “Haute-”sneakers are available now. The high-top model is definitely different from what we used to see. It comes in beige, white or black, made of leather and the lacing is actually at the top part of the shoe to create a great effect above the ankles. They remind me of more upscale boxing shoes. The zipper is surprisingly located in the back of the shoe, probably to make sure your feet getting into it easily. The line is completely with mid-high and low sneakers, all good-looking and love the old-school vibe with the double-velcro.

Trendspotting? Fedora’s shift

Iceberg, John Rocha, John Varvatos

When we all thought the fedora was dead after the last Indiana Jones movie, the famous hat is still an accessory that endures across the seasons. Usually men’s favorite millinery, on the Spring 2010 runways I’ve seen fedoras all over and stylishly designed to freshen up your head. Not only intended for men, I’ve spotted some fedora on collections for women on occasions. From the beachside to the office, there is a fedora for everyone.
