Spike My Heart, Effortlessly Cool Accessories by Dannijo

Americana collection by Dannijo

Since last year, edgy and big accessories were all out and about across the different fashion trends. The parade is far from vanishing once you stumble upon Dannijo’s treasure chest. The NYC-based brand, founded by the sisters Danielle and Jodie Snyder, create stylish yet effortlessly cool “slash” chic “slash” edgy “slash” eclectic accessories. Even the celebrities are rushing to get these on-the-budget jewelries handmade with love in New York. Studded or spiked, these accessories have a rocker-chic touch that will complement any of your frocks or distressed tees as long as it comes with the right attitude. One last advice, the more the better.

No This Is Not Another Gucci Bag

This is not a post to talk exclusively about the latest Gucci bag. But you probably have recognized the popular “Sukey” handbag that has been relaunched in a 2010 special edition. This limited gray edition called “La Pelle Guccissima” will be sold until early next year with 25% of the revenue of each bag donated to UNICEF’s “Schools for Africa” fund raising program.

This initiative shows that luxury brands can care too and not only for the prestige or publicity it can generate. Just to give you an idea, in just 5 years of partnership with UNICEF, Gucci has been able to provide over $7 million in funds over UNICEF’s programs. And this is noteworthy enough for me to encourage such partnership. But I’d say this is never enough! So if you have enough money to afford the $1,295 price tag, keep in mind that 25% will be used to help saving and improving children’s lives in Malawi and Mozambique.

For more information, go check the website at Gucci.com

Patterns On The Playground

Adding fun patterns to your outfits is definitely my favorite trend of the season. The more eccentric, the better. Even the least expected combination works like magic. Let’s transform our streets into a playground like these street-style  pictures captured by our most famous sartorialist Scott Schuman and shoe-fetishist Tommy Lee of Jak+Jil. For some reason I am having troubles to find men playing with prints and pattern that are worth sharing. Anyway, this will be a good excuse for another trend report!

Trendspotting? Designers Gone Scissors Mad

Pucci, Michael Kors, BCBG Max Azria, Marc Jacobs, Balmain, Alexander Wang, Versace

If you are not afraid to pop your flesh up during Summer, the designers went completely mad with their scissors to make one of the strongest trend of the season. Cutouts were all over the place in Fashion week. Designers like Michael Kors and Versace did not shy away as usual. Even this time, hot players like Balmain and Marc Jacobs got into the exercise with sexy gold sequined bodycons or ruffled dresses. Alexander Wang did try some experiments like his famous cutouts socks for his trendy sportswear collection. And the Versace turquoise dress on Ginta Lapina is the sexiest of the season!

Shrink To Fit by Steven Meisel for Vogue Italia

For their latest issue, Vogue Italia picked model and icon Amber Valletta to take over their cover in a classical 90’s-inspired photo composed by photographer Steven Meisel. Even though this issue is full of good surprises like the ghostly and romantic “A white story” by Paolo Roversi, the main editorial directed by Steven Meisel is quite interesting yet intriguing to explore. This photoshoot is capturing a casting of superstars led by Amber Valletta and followed by Angela Lindvall, Joan Smalls, Lara Stone, Freja Beha Erichsen, Giedre Dukauskaite, Gwen Loos, Jac Jagaciak and Abbey Lee Kershaw in dead nature-like scenes. The title says it all, the stylist played with the proportions by selecting prep-school girl outfits in their shortest dimensions, most of the pieces coming from the Spring/Summer runways. But going all-out with the craziest and latest hairdos created by famous hairstylist Guido Palau. Some hairstyles were recognizable like the insane and greasy hairs from Alexander Wang or the puffy/voluminous mess from Louis Vuitton. With such distracting emphasis, it made the editorial quite interesting (and probably saved it from flatness). If you are curious by nature, take a look a the backstage video.

Skool Sucks, Get Wild – The Cobrasnake for Wildfox

The wild girls of LA-based clothing brand Wildfox are back with a trashy-college-girls-gone-wild editorial shot by Marc The Cobrasnake, and featuring models Tallulah Morton and Erika Braukis. Wearing denim cut-offs, cropped sexy tops and a good selection of infamous sexy cutout pieces, this is the hottest editorial reenacting a sexy Spring Break weekend you’ll only dream in your craziest fantasy. As usual, what I appreciate the most from any Wildfox photoshoots are that sexy rockstar attitude and vintage atmostphere that come blended into the clothes and its perfect casting. I think if you want to bring a bit of sexiness into your closet, Wildfox is the right choice and Cobrasnake’s grand’pa won’t disagree (the photoshoot was done in his house).

Self Service #32 Spring/Summer 2010: Save Polaroid

Jacquelyn Jablonski

If anything could save Polaroid from final extinction, it would be the fashion photographers. After seeing these beautiful shots of the “oh!” gorgeous and my-favorite-of-the-moment top model Jacquelyn Jablonski, I don’t know what other kind of cameras can capture unique pictures like these. Self Service #32 made the case with full pages of Polaroid pictures featuring several models such as Malgosia Bela and Carmen Kass. Actually I just wanted to make the case of Jacquelyn since I’ve never posted anything about her. My favorite Jersey girl has an atypical aesthetic and strong facial expression that made her the (probably) only dark-haired model currently trusting the catwalks. So my ultimate goal right now if get to interview her. Keep you posted!

Grey S/S 2010 – In The Thick Of Fashion

Model: Constance Jablonski - Photographer: Chadwick Tyler - Stylist: Valentina Ilardi Martin

There are magazines you like and other you don’t like. I could spend hours at my favorite newsstand (mine is on Bryant park, NYC)  flipping through tons of magazines trying to make up my mind whether the investment is worth it. Among my favorites, I have Harper’s, Vogue Nippon and i-D, then I may consider any other title depending on the cover and its content. To be honest, as a fashion magazine freak I am hardly trying to not buy too many in other to save the more trees possible (in reality, my bedroom is starting to look like a newsstand).

This week I wanted to share my latest finding. A treasure thick like Karl Lagerfeld before taking on his diet, and it’s only a second issue. I wonder why I’ve never heard of Grey until I found it stuck in between Purple and POP. The cover featuring Constance Jablonski photographed by Chadwick Tyler is a pure gem, probably not the best editorial in this issue, but great to see Constance in a different and unusual situation, looking comfortable and breezy. Other editorials are purely and hauntingly amazing. Captivating from the the cover to the last page, the magazine is thick like the money you are going to spend on it. However on the good side,  it is ads-free so you have no reason to complain but to buy it. And I swear this is not a sponsored post!

Trendspotting? Eye Candy

Christopher Kane, Versace, Ralph Lauren, Stella McCartney, Paul Smith, Lanvin

Whatever people may say, you don’t have to just wear camo this season. To tell you the truth, there are plenty of other colors that came up big on the runways and pink is again one of these colors that shall catch your attention. Either in soft cotton candy pastel or bright lipstick, with a strong or soft silhouette, it captures the most of your femininity.

Trendspotting? Steal The Show

Erdem, Prada, Fendi, Gucci, Versace

A sunny day is always paired a good pair of sunglasses. Either at the beach or in the streets you want, it’s the perfect accessory and what you wear tells a lot about you. The Spring/Summer 2010 season was filled with loads of glamorous sunglasses but also some eccentric ones. As usual Italian playmakers such as Fendi, Gucci, Prada and Versace show their savoir-faire of designing jet-set-friendly shades. On the other hand, I was expecting Vivienne Westwood to make the craziest sunglasses but Londonian designers Erdem and Giles, and French Sonia Rykiel stole the show with some bizarre and eccentric frames. Anyway, whatever you have in mind there is something for you!
