When looking at the Chanel Haute Couture collection in Paris today, I had mixed feelings depending on the different angles I was observing it. Karl Lagerfeld had apparently one night “an electronic flash in my head at five o’clock one morning. Silver and pastel“. A dream that led him to design a futuristic and baroque concept transforming classic Chanel tweed suits and dresses into Grecian goddess gowns from a parallel world. Despite the fact the inspiration and execution sound strange to me (culottes and unflattering suits…), I liked the aesthetic of the whole collection (note: not black and gold!). Like a Neverending movie, the atmosphere was ethereal, dreamy and futuristic just by looking at the pillars lined the catwalk with fluorescent rainbows.  Out of the 6 collections Karl did in the past year, this is probably my  least favorite and the boldest one as well – and really hated the Gaga-esque hairstyle. What I really enjoyed was to watch the collection from small mobile cameras which added this grainy/blurry quality onto the pictures and recreate the ethereal atmosphere.

Nevertheless the collection has generated a lot of buzz today, I will rather let the debate go between pros and cons while I will be dreaming about other things.
