Louis Vuitton
Louis Vuitton for men is all about masculine fashion, luxurious design and this season is no exception. Back to basics, the collection designed by Christian Schoeller is about simplicity, revisiting classics and utilitarian. Tweeds, leather coast, wool suits, double-breasted cardigan and vests, down vests, refined pants with a little equestrian statement when you look at these amazing rubber boots. Some details on the coats and pants were fabulous, and I felt like my days when I used to let my shirts loosen up are back again. The type of outfits I’d totally die for in 9 months. Highlights of the collection were the bags and boots, the bags were absolutely fascinating particularly the backpack painted by the artist Christian Schoeller. At the end of the week, this collection may be in my top 3.
Jean-Paul Gaultier
Can we talk about a trend? The season throws some good punches. After the DSquared² “hockey-horror” show, it’s in a boxing gym that Jean Paul Gaultier is bringing us. Bring your boxing gear in layered pieces of fur coats, tank-top tess, belted skirts, leather jackets and trousers with protective padding, sweat pants, hoodies and long scarves emulating towels. The theme is strong and the tailoring looks amazingly well refined. I liked that Gaultier put his boxers in his signature skirt… and these killer boots! Over the past few seasons I’ve noticed a real invasion of sports-themed collection, think Alexander Wang, Hermes, DSquared, etc. Wondering if it’s a cue the fashion industry is trying to appeal to a larger population.
Dries Van Noten
If you are fan of mix-matching your clothes, Dries Van Noten may be your leader. This fall 2010 collection is all about matching the unmatchable: two-tone coats and vests, striped shirts and suits, bold colors and prints, sweat pant and vest. The collection is somehow a follow-up of the Summer collection with lots of mixed prints. Not my cup of tea, even though I appreciate the boldness take on the collections. No hard offense, I prefer 2009.
