It’s that time of the year you feel totally thrilled about the idea of a new year, the new resolution you are going to make and all the crazy things you look forward to. 2009 absolutely sucked ass however looking at the positive side of the force, fashion has been staying “à la mode” as usual. 2010 will be awesome because I feel everyone’s mojo is getting back.

Here a compilation from “the crème of the crème” to pay a little homage to the year that is ending. Hope you enjoy and looking forward to rocking 2010 with you!

Rodarte for men – Ragged mohair sweater

Rodarte Men cardigan at Opening Ceremony

The Mulleavy sisters finally made the highly expected move to menswear and it occupied the headlines of the day. Opening Ceremony has the extreme privilege to sell some of the mohair “ragged” knits that would remind you the old punk days. The sweaters look mostly unconventional probably too edgy for the fashionisto you are and it’s certainly not Humberto who can pull that sweater off, but who knows… The first four items from Rodarte Men are available at Opening Ceremony now in case you are interested, but will need a bit of motivation in these times since each retails at $2,760.

New Year Eve 2010 party – Dress to impress

Run of Show - Photographed by Craig McDean - styled by Alex White for W Magazine

Run of Show - Photographed by Craig McDean - styled by Alex White for W Magazine

Over the past 2 days, I heard my girl friends constantly flooding me with the same question: “What should I wear for NYE?” My answer was still and will always be the same, even though the fashion stake is at the highest your party outfit shall depend of the type of party, the dress code and obviously the style you feel comfortable in (and I did not include budget this time). To help them, I collected a few links I could find quickly from the web with some outfits inspiration.

The team at Refinery29 put together some great party ensembles and not the usual ones: boyish, sparkling or edgy – here are 4 iconic styles. Another shopping list made by the same team with 19 holiday party dresses to help you outshine any light display.

Style.com gathered the list of outstanding “celebrity” party dresses according to their tastemakers – motto: life is a party.

If you want to rule the red carpet with celebrity sexiness at its best, Elle.com has got what you want if you have the body of sexy-goddess Jolie or the angelic Miranda.

And my last link is this original editorial by W Magazine with 27 dresses all chic, fluid and spring-like nicely photographed by Craig McDean.

My favorite? I have to admit the Chloé silk dress is for-mi-dable.

Zimmermann swimwear Summer 2010 lookbook

Zimmermann swimwear Summer 2010 lookbook

Zimmermann swimwear has been around for ages in Australia, and each collection release has the same effect on followers as if they were waiting for the Victoria’s Secret show. Always sexy, wild and inventive designs with eclectic prints (floral to geometric patterns), asymmetric shapes and eye-popping colors. The Summer 2010 lookbook is out on their Australian website and it looks amazing. Less sexy but I love the teenage glamour that is reflected on the pictures. Reminds me of my summer vacations in the South of France while in high-school. The collection feels really SoCa/ bohemian for pretty young things.

Heat is on by Russh December 2009

Russh Jacquelyn Jablonski

This has been the warmest weekend I have ever had in December in New York City. In the lower 50’s all day made me feel closer to Spring days than the colder days supposed to hit the city this week. While I was dreaming of summer days, this nice editorial from the Australian fashion mag Russh has everything to warm you up this end of December. Models Erin Heatherton and Jacquelyn Jablonski had to sweat for the camera of photographer Benny Horne. I like the sexy poses and outfits put together by Stevie Dance.

I also invite you to take a look at their online version of their issue to give you some good beach style tips.

It may be mid-December but Russh is bringing the heat with a steamy editorial, the always cool Erin Heatherton and white hot Jacquelyn Jablonski star in Benny Horne’s beachfront story. The duo wear body conscious designs styled by Stevie Dance, as they vamp it up with their sexiest poses.

Fashion establishment in panic

“There has been a complete change this year,” said Kelly Cutrone, who has been organizing fashion shows since 1987. “Do I think, as a publicist, that I now have to have my eye on some kid who’s writing a blog in Oklahoma as much as I do on an editor from Vogue? Absolutely. Because once they write something on the Internet, it’s never coming down. And it’s the first thing a designer is going to see.”

This quote found on the recently published article by the New York Times reminded me why I had created this blog and why I have been continuing to keep it alive for so long. Not only I love the world of fashion since little but the current digital world totally democratized it. It allowed me to give my opinions on the most recent collections and news, embracing fashion online with my own voice and subjectivity almost on real-time. And realizing you can do it right before the major publishers print their papers, makes it exciting and makes us “bloggers” feel powerful “relatively”.

I always admired Carine Roitfeld as an editor, the way she shaped the fashion world through many years puts me back into perspective, but the footprint I leave with my blog is not even as big as her smallest nail. However, knowing to have thousands of readers every month, who write me or designers contacting me for a review just proves how today bloggers are as important as any classic magazine editor. Kelly Cutrone is right, the new era of digital had shaken up the establishment and how fashion enthusiasts look for information. Blogs, Facebook, Twitter among others are the first sites where consumers go to get inspiration and there is room for anyone to write/review. Maybe not enough room during the fashion shows for anyone to seat but I like the idea of live streamed shows accessible to anyone as Alexander McQueen did in the past season. Secretly, dreaming of an invitation to Dior, Lanvin and Chanel shows.

Icons

Rachel Chandler as Debbie Harry

Rachel Chandler as Debbie Harry

In their latest issue, Muse recalled 4 female icons from the 60’s & 70’s with contemporary and young faces from New York. Purple Diary’s Rachel Chandler above as Debbie Harry, Muse’s new face and model Rachel Ballinger as Edie Sedgwick, Victoria’s Secret new little angel Lily Aldridge as Bianca Jagger and model Rachel Poppy Delevigne as Nico.

I’ve never been a fan of impersonation in fashion editorials, particularly when you look at Lindsay Lohan’s disastrous attempts… but this time I have to admit these 4 girl pull it off pretty well.

Dear Santa…

Photographer: Natasha Cantwell

Photographer: Natasha Cantwell

Dear Santa,

this year totally sucked ass but by staying positive it helped me continue to achieve great stuff in my life. Despite the general depressive mood of our world, staying optimistic is one gift to keep and grow. For 2010, I wish it to be a greater year, colorful, playful, joyful and fashion-tastic. I expect an explosion of creativeness on the runways and on the streets, let’s get away from latent conservatism of our favorite designers (80’s look is fun but it gets tired). And more importantly no more designer’s label closures (on a heartbreak for Phi and Lacroix), no more fashion covers with Lindsay Lohan or any industry appearances at all (she is killing Ungaro).

Let’s make 2010 rock! Peace & Love! K
