Today was Thanksgiving food post-trauma or more commonly called “Black Friday”. The day American folks walk off all the food had gobbled by going shopping ferociously. Surprisingly the streets were quiet, either the cold in NYC has discouraged the fashionistas or the Dubai’s debt crisis pushed down their budget. I have not been very impressed by the sales in the stores, rather be finding some good deals online with extended sales until Cyber Monday since I’m slow to make up my mind.
Caroline in the rain, is wearing a fabulous pair of studded boots made by Angela C (only in Sweden though).
It’s with this picture of Marylena and Anna wearing a Bardot-esque hair and Dovima-like eye make-up, naturally holding a glass a bubbly, I wanted to share my thankful post for this amazing year working on this website. It was a year ago I started to cover the Spring 2009 Fashion Week and today I continue having the same passion and motivation to share with you the latest news and trends of our beloved world of fashion. It would have never happened without the amazing readers that come to my website everyday and the audience growing and growing each month.
In this day it’s time to thank your loved ones for their support and love. I thank you all for your positive messages and looking forward to a new tremendous season in Fashion. Enjoy the big bird and stay warm during the long weekend.
Just to prove Fashion is restless, I leave you on this big buzz by Kate Moss who philosophically stated: “Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels.” It blew me away harder than the Buzz Lightyear balloon at Macy’s Parade.
For their new issue, V Magazine assigned filmmaker Stephen Smith to create a stop-motion video footage that captures the essence of what makes Chanel so special. This saying, watching this video reminded me also how I have always been fascinated by Coco Chanel, the famous French designer whose philosophy of simple elegance and expensive items made her such an inspirational figure and mademoiselles happy & chic. I’m glad Chanel today still continues to believe that chic can be made of minimalist items, the first lady of fashion can rest in peace.
Are you ready to see men wearing tights and long sweatshirts “a la Flashdance” in the streets? Probably yes, the trend is coming alone as well documented in this NY Times article I read this morning.
More and more brands mix the genders in their lines, developing unisex-like collections: American Apparel and Urban Outfitters among others. The so called “gender fluidity” is mainly exploding among young people who think and dress more outside the box and are ready to blend genders. Peer culture as understood as interchangeability is said to be the cause of this trend, and not any form of rebellion. Young people want to make a statement, a difference. I believe androgyny in fashion can also increase the spectrum your own style: girlish dress at work or severe-tailored jacket in the evening; the future will let you break the boundaries of your closet. And haute designers have already started to take a few steps as we could see in the past two seasons. While Burberry focused on interchangeable coats, YSL has brought drapey-shirts to men and serious suits for women.
What was the best way to kick off the week back in NY? Certainly not with a flu…it may have been one of the most exhausting experience but after stocking up with Tamiflu and Advil I’m glad to be feeling much better relatively compared to yesterday. People, keep washing your hands as much as you can and protect yourself with a mask if you are around sick persons – never enough said.
This morning I came through the most adorable blog ever with an ecstatic “awww” in my mouth, the first street-style website dedicated to kids. I guess to start the day I needed to go across all the pages and view the cutest toddlers in great fashion. Thanks to team Awesome: Julia Samersova Adler and her husband Andrew Adler for making my day!
Not only the blog provides a great source of kids just totally adorable in a way that makes you sigh all day, its objective is also to raise funds and donate to select local kids charities focused on providing support to underprivileged children and their families.
Now I suggest to go on Planet Awesome Kid and devour all the kids only with your eyes
Life sometimes can be beyond comprehension, why it’s always the best persons that walk away first? 20-year-old model Daul Kim was found dead in Paris this morning. No official source has told the cause of the death, but The Cut seems to tell Daul Kim committed suicide. It’s once again a moment of sadness (this year has been terrible…) and I send my prayers to her family that will be missing their loved one.
Daul Kim will be always remembered as a fun and adorable person. I absolutely adore the videos she compiled for The Cut during Fashion Week, showing her outside of the runways in a more intimate P.O.V. Watch here.
In addition, the photo you find above has been taken from an Elle Korea editorial featuring Daul. How random the Knightcat posted it yesterday, she probably could not expect such sad news the day later. I invite to read more about the editorial on her blog.
Shot in front of the Delay No More store in Hong-Kong
I’m back! Back in the New York with tons of great souvenirs from my trip in Asia that covered Japan, Taiwan and Hong-Kong. It feels like I have been out for months traveling between places, carrying with me the tiredness of such large and the intense jet-lag. Back in the city where the streets’ noises actually cover the music from my iPod, the AT&T iPhone 3G network still sucks and MTA’s service advisories stays inelegible. After this, people will think I complain too much. I love New York City and probably my famous I (heart) NY tee will be enough to prove it.
It’s time to catch up, read what happened in the past 2 weeks and will be coming soon. Tomorrow will be rich in news, everyone (every male) in the World is excited by the new Victoria’s Secret Fashion show which will be opened by the hot model Alessandra Ambrosio. The new Twilight movie is coming up. And the weather is NY is surprisingly warm, you could still see me wearing a t-shirt and wool cardigan. I’ve noticed Terry Richardson has been quite busy lately, demonstrated with this editorial for VMan magazine mixing sexy photos with a humorous touch. H&M had launched their collaborative collection with Jimmy Choo and once again little fashionistas went crazy on the racks and hangers, imagine everything was sold out within an hour during the collection’s debut in stores.
After a long night of sleep tonight I think I will be ready to get a long massage in Chinatown tomorrow. If you don’t know Mei on Mott St., I highly recommend if you are looking for a classic Chinese reflexology therapy – beware it may be painful the first time
While I’m stuck in Tokyo for the night on my way to Taiwan and Hong-Kong, I wanted to let you know I’ll be probably updating tais-toi, sois beau less often than usual as I may have limited access to Internet for the next 14 days. These two weeks of vacation will allow me to discover and explore the zillions of styles found in Asia. Already today in my flight, I’ve seen some cutting-edge Japanese style with a girl highly inspired by the mangas – I wished I had my camera with me…
Model Dree Hemingway - photographed by Sebastian Faena - styled by Clare Richardson
22-year old former trained ballet dancer now model, great grand-daughter of the legendary Ernest Hemingway is all but a diva. Here is a sneak preview from the next V Magazine issue #62, in which the American model Dree Hemingway is photographed by Sebastian Faena, styled by Clare Richardson. In the pictures she was shot immediately after the New York collections in September wearing the latest from the Spring collections.
Dree Hemingway has been doing pretty well this year and has created some hype with her appearance on the Givenchy runway in Paris, in the Gucci campaign and in many Fashion editorials for Elle and Vogue. I am happy for Dree’s success in this industry, as she is proud of her Midwest roots and stays modest about her ascent, Dree has an extreme beauty and intriguing pedigree – the one that inspires dreamers. Fashion has always been closely in relation with music. Clearly, who has not been influenced by our favorite artists and bands? All the musical cultures have created street styles that today influence designers and retailers, and vice-versa.
While I was preparing for my long getaway, packing and making a music playlist for my iPod – I was listening to Cassette Kids, a Sydney-based rock group that I’ve discovered a few months ago. While I’ve been neglecting to watch their music videos until now, I was surprised to catch the beautiful singer Katrina Noorbergen wearing the famous Chloe Sevigny x Opening Ceremony buckle boots. The see-through dress over that black body suit – so sexy!

This is the first single from the Cassette Kids forthcoming debut album “Nothing On TV”, directed by renowned fashion photographer Pierre Toussant. The single will be released on the 30th of October and the album is expected in early 2010. For more information head to their website or MySpace page.
