Day 2 of Fashion Week confirmed a few trends spotted yesterday. While some trends already flourished, bold colors made a major appearance today like blue as a major contestant to orange. Tailoring today was very sophisticated, it’s either asymmetric or geometric and always comes with straps. Here is my selection from the catwalks.

Jason Wu was the most anticipated collection of the day and the designer that became famous thanks to Michelle Obama showed he has good eyes for colors and prints. His collection felt like a mosaic of colors, shapes, fabrics and geometric patterns mixing silk and or denim tweeds. I have noticed also he played with the different shoes colors to create splash of colors from head to toe. However, even though the collection had some great pieces I felt it had too much of everything and losing focus on a main theme. See more from his collection.

Phillip Lim’s first “menswear only” presentation was a total highlight! The broken windowpane print in jackets and pants ruled! Phillip Lim presented his new collection at home in the most intimate way. The collection was set up to create a poetic atmosphere for its modern collection. Highlights are a lot of layers, double-breasted jacket, leather t-shirts and shorts. The silhouettes remind me of the beatniks from the late 50’s.

Yigal Azrouël said he had “precision” and “bold lines” in mind for his Spring 10 RTW collection. The line reinforces the first trends of Fashion Week: asymmetric straps and geometric edgy cut-outs accompanied with second-skin tiny dresses flattering the silhouette.

Newcomer Prabal Gurung in Fashion Week has a philosophy “What can I do to get people to buy my clothes? “. The Nepalese designer wants to design luxury clothing with fine tailoring for an affordable cost. His collection focuses on the art of draping with silk jackets, ribbon ties on the neck but also on the ankles and at the waist, slim trousers and long dresses sweeping the floor. A very feminine collection with some amazing cocktail dresses like the silk blue gown. See more pictures.
