While the streets of Manhattan were invaded by fashionistas during the Fashion’s Night Out festivities, we almost forgot that NYC Fashion Week just started. The opening day had some good collections offering previews of what Spring 2010 trends would be. Sharp tailoring, geometric shapes, mix of fabrics and blasts of prints invaded the runaways at Eli Tahari, Wayne and BCBG Max Azria sending a message that Fashion is back this week!

Eli Tahari’s Spring collection turned into a Safari-themed collection in a very elegant way. Drawstring pants, linen blazers, softly draped dresses, very thin and light fabrics, and khaki suits all combined in this chic collection where sand and orange were the main color blasts. The men’s wear was the spotlight with see-through suits.

BCBG Max Azria proposed a colorful collection with embellished, printed, and ruched clothes. The colors were modern and vibrant maximizing the contrast with black. Shoulders and the neck are wide opened to create a sexy look but tempered with fluid clothes. The designer brought some hemlines with mini-dresses, definitely not the best sophistication I’ve seen for the moment.
