Elizabeth and James Fall 2009 – The house is full

Elizabeth and James Fall 2009 campaign

The Full House moguls and twins Mary-Kate/Ashley Olsens once again show their ease to dress people seamlessly. For Fall 2009, the campaign is full of strangers whose characters are quite intriguing almost gangster-ish. Anyway, I’d love to find out what’s the storyline behind this campaign. Elizabeth and James is a high-end low-key brand of clothes that knows how to layer casual with formal gears. The new line is pretty straightforward and will keep you dressed-up during the upcoming season. (more…)

Stella McCartney F/W 2009 campaign: Back to the age of innocence

Stella McCartney F/W 2009 campaign

Stella McCartney is a huge Bambi fan as the movie always reminds her of her late mother. So for this season’s ad campaign, Stella wanted to have fun and bring a little bit of regression with childlike ads. The campaign, shot by Ryan McGinley in the woods of Worcestershire, England, features Disney’s most famous deer and his pals Thumper, Friend Owl and Flower the skunk layered on the photos. French model Sigrid Agren is pictured stroking a live fox. So far I’ve only seen the ad on the Vogue Paris September issue, anyone else?

“Live from New York” by Mario Sorrenti for V Magazine

V61 MARIO SORRENTI feat. Sasha Pivovarova

Models: Sasha Pivovarova & Freja Beha Erichsen - Photographed: Mario Sorrenti - Styling: Jane How

In the battle of the “September issue” best editorials, this photoshoot for V Magazine’s V61 got my attention. Supermodels Sasha Pivovarova and Freja Beha Erichsenn owned the theatrical Times Square by wearing the most eccentric looks inspired from the place. The two Alexander McQueen outfits in the sixth photo are probably the most extremes. But overall I’m very happy to see a very original editorial. (more…)

Fall 2009 Trends: Jackets are “de rigueur”

Boyish jackets trends Fall 2009

Don’t get me wrong, women in a men’s jacket are sexy! Boyish silhouettes have be quite ubiquitous during all Fashion Week runways. Strong masculine-shaped jackets with shoulders and straight lines adds to the androgynous trends of this fall 2009. Jackets will be “de rigueur” at work or after work from Chloé, YSL, Stella McCartney, Ralph Lauren, Phillip Lim and Hussein Chalayan. (more…)

Fashion’s Night Out – Get ready for the big night of shopping

Liya Kedebe wears the Fashion's Night Out tee

Thanks to Susan at Vogue who just informed me that the directory of all the events organized by the FNO participating stores is available on the official site. Get prepared for the long night of shopping and extravaganza on September 10th here in NYC and the boroughs. A lot of retailers will have celebrity and designer appearances, musical performances, personal styling advices, fashion shows, photo exhibits and nice discounts to make you shop all night.

I am absolutely thrilled by this event and think it’s a brilliant initiative to not only boost the economy in our city but also open the doors of the fashion industry to all individuals. Don’t forget that the initiative on September 10th will  support two important New York charities: The September 11 Memorial and Museum at the WTC will receive 40 percent of the proceeds from the sale of the Fashion’s Night Out T-shirt. And the NYC AIDS fund will benefit from a Manhattan clothing drive located in retails and public locations. If you feel like you want to give some of your old clothes, don’t hesitate to ask for more information.

The event is going to kick off at the Macy’s Queens Center at 5:00 p.m. where Anna Wintour and Michael Kors will sign the Fashion’s Night Out tee for the first 50 customers. An exclusive performance by the Tony Award–winning cast of Hair will also be launching the festivities.

In over 700 participating stores, some guest appearances will be huge! So don’t miss out this opportunity to meet your favorites designers and models. A map highlighting all events will help you plan your night and will be distributed on September 9th and 10th at key commuter sites across the city, including Grand Central and Penn Stations, the Port Authority, the Staten Island Ferry Terminal and Columbus Circle. Look for Fashion’s Night Out street teams at these locations and select high-traffic shopping destinations during peak morning and evening rush hours. For additional distribution go at an Official NYC Information center kiosk.

Probably some of you are already hyperventilating and this is just the beginning!

Fashion’s Night Out – Save the economy in fashion

Fashion's Night Out on Septermber 10th

What’s the result of a collaboration between Anna Wintour, DVF and Mayor Michael Bloomberg? Probably the biggest Fashion event in History that will take place on September 10th. Not only free champagne and “hors-d’oeuvres” will flow in the streets of New York City and every big capitals of the world, but come meet celebrities while you shop at tons of retailers in NYC.

Fashion’s Night Out is organized to enliven the shopper’s spirit and help boost the local industry, because if you “buy clothes, people keep their jobs”. To be part of the celebration, all the shops have been encouraged to open their doors until late night and implement creative consumer experiences. Expect deep discounting along with exclusive music performances, bloc parties, free makeovers and styling tips depending on the events around the city.

Among the big events in Manhattan, the Teen Vogue team plus some very exciting celebrity guests will be hanging out on Bleecker Street, Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen will be bartending at Barney’s, Pharrell Williams will be at the register at Billionaire Boys Club in Soho and Anna Wintour will open the festivities at Macy’s in the Queens Center Mall.

While you shop to relive the industry, you can also shop for a good cause. The Fashion’s Night Out T-shirt commissioned for New York City will be available at retail locations. Forty percent of the proceeds from the sale of the Fashion’s Night Out t-shirt will be donated by the retailers to the National September 11 Memorial & Museum at the World Trade Center.

Racked has listed all top 10 events during FNO and on the official site you’ll find the directory to buy the FNO t-shirt.

Don’t forget to mark your calendars!

H&M Fall mag: Parisian chic feat. Karmen Pedaru – part 2

Karmen Pedaru for H&M Fall 2009 magazine

To continue the coverage of H&M Fall 2009 magazine, I wanted to post this elegant editorial very chic, very Parisian called “Paris mon amour”. Not because I am from Paris and I obviously love this city, but I found the collection very pleasant to look at. The line is chic and elegant, fabrics look really good, a very “Parisian bobo-chic” style. Despite the boots thigh-high boots that look horrendous, everything else is really well-designed. I like the textured second-skin jean, white blouse in the second picture and the plaid jacket are all good. (more…)

Supermodel-turned-actress Amber Valleta will soon be in theater for the movie “Gamer.” A high-concept action thriller set in the near future, a time when mind-control technology has taken society by storm. Humans controlling other humans using a multiplayer online game. Far from her career as a supermodel, Amber, now 35, is now making slowly her path to Hollywood and wants to move away from the girl-next-door image we all think she is. (more…)

H&M Fall mag: Shop smart & affordable feat. Angela Lindvall – part 1

Angela Lindvall on the cover of H&M Fall 2009 magazine

Angela Lindvall on the cover of H&M Fall 2009 magazine

I usually don’t go that much at any H&M stores or even pay attention to their catalog, and furthermore, H&M has their own bi-annual magazine. Not exactly like Acne paper, the magazine is more like an editorial/trend catalog as they just use their own items and have some articles about celebrities/catwalks stories.

Angela Lindvall on the cover definitely caught my attention. A powerful cover really Vogue-like and a beautiful Angela as always reveal the fall Fashion trends. Curious that I am, I’ve decided to take a look at the interior pages. Their new collections are definitely – obviously – highly-inspired from the RTW F/W 2009 runways, you’ll find everything that are making the trends this fall but on the cheap side of the wallet. Lara Stone is “Gloria” for Vogue Paris September

Lara Stone by Mert & Marcus for Vogue Paris September

For the second time this year, Lara Stone is on the cover of Vogue Paris. In this September issue, Carine Roitfeld’s favorite model is featured in an editorial tribute to lace and tweed. Photographed by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott and styled by Carine Roitfeld herself, Lara Stone took a major break from the polished blondish girl she is known to be. Lara plays “Gloria”, a brunette enchantress Italian “femme fatale” with 50’s vintage hair, charcoal-ed eyes and wearing extremely sexy and suggesting clothes. It turns out Lara Stone’s makeover is surprising and ranks the model as the hottest “It-girl” of the moment. (more…)
