Menswear Spring 2010: Rick Owens, an American in Paris

Rick Owens Menswear Spring 2010

Men’s Fashion Week has hit Paris and it’s been already two interesting days. With, probably the two most talented, designers John Galliano and Raf Simon, Paris Fashion Week has shown the best extremes that keep fashion so innovative and inspiring. But I’ve wanted to start by putting the spot on Rick Owens, recently quoted in an interview saying “American tourists were ruining the Paris landscape with their fanny packs and their man bags”. The American designer living in Paris, explained his inspiration for his Spring 2010 collection. “I call it my all-American collection,” he said. “It’s sort of an apology for being such a jerk.” (more…)

Resort 2010 trends: Summer brights

Summer is slowly popping in NYC and it’s just so frustrating to see the weather report forecasting more days or rain and cloudy skyline… I have abandoned all hope of a sunny and warm summer until I’ve realized summer colors have been hitting the Resort 2010 collections the past weeks! My second favorite color after lime green, tangerine/orange is no longer associated with the falling leaves of Autumn, we’ve seen our favorite designers like Jason Wu and Zac Posen showing some fresh and pretty looks. Sexy stretch pants or chiffon frock, bright colors are used smartly to make that statement: “Summer is not dead!”.

Mint green has also been a dominant color that just popped up this season. Probably to promote a greener way of life. Jason Wu, Bottega Veneta and Zac Posen knew how to make it summer cool! Ready for a BBQ in your backyard? In addition I’ve noticed a whole load of designers using pastels on their collection: Prada and Louis Vuitton are good examples. In contrast to the austerity of the Fall shows, their collection had a few nice draped-back dresses in camel color-blocked with pastels.

Chanel Cruise 2010 – When Coco Chanel came back from Venice

Chanel cruise 2010 by Karl Lagerfeld

For this year’s Chanel Cruise show, Karl Lagerfeld took us genuinely into the charming atmosphere of Venice. “Venice has a genuine dark and mysterious side to it that fascinated me. I really like the Italian spirit and the Venetian lifestyle,” said Lagerfeld, sporting a royal blue jacket, white shirt and skinny black pants. “And let’s not forget that Coco Chanel came back to Venice for 10 years.”

With a predominant look from the 30’s, models strolled down like pirates with wide-brimmed hats and black capes, then came the sailor dresses with black stripes. Gondola stripes also dominated the knitwear and accessories, especially the open-toe wedge boots worn on the picture above. For someone who love stripes and cruise-style look, i was totally hooked after looking at the performance.

To refer to Venice and in the memory of Coco as subtly as possible, the lion, Venice’s emblem and Coco Chanel’s birth sign, appeared as a print on flowy sepia-toned or black-and-white chiffon dresses. See the complete collection or watch the video on WWD.com.

Edgy with Built-In Fishnet Jeans

Black ripped jean fishnetBlack ripped jean fishnet

Ripped jeans made a huge appearance according to the celebrity photos spotted in every magazine. After a few designers have considered the shredded black pants during their fashion shows, it did not take long to see clothing boutiques launching all type of ripped jeans.

One that caught my attention is a tattered denim that has fishnets built-in. The jeans pictured here are exclusively sold at Karmaloop and are made by Tripp NYC. Their look is perfect and innovative if you are looking for ripped, skinny-legs and distressed jeans. Check this out soon before it’s too late!

First look at Emma Watson’s Burberry Campaign

Emma Watson for Burberry Fall 2009 campaign

Rumors were true, Burberry has enlisted Emma Watson as their new face for the fall 2009 campaign. A celebrity face that represents a major shift for the brand that usually cast famous or less known models. The campaign shot by Mario Testino ensures that the advertising keeps a quintessential British and quirky style which make Burberry ads so distinct.

I definitely like this obvious model choice, Emma has a true classic beauty, a great character and is modern-edgy. Her natural charm and intellect make these campaign shot brilliant and fresh.
