Nipped-in waistlines, classic femininity

Vogue May 2009 Flora Plan Australia classic femininity

Vogue Australia’s May 2009 issue celebrates with “Flora plan” the nipped-in waistlines from the 40’s. Photographed by Troyt Couburn, model Valerija Erokhina with her natural grace and floral embellishments pasy homage to classic femininity. Each outfit is elegant and perfect for summer, wasp-waisted silhouette carefully embellished with floral ornaments, layers of chiffon, tweed, silk and lace. I like the colors that utterly invert the black and gray trend that have flooded the recent Fashion Weeks.

The perfect Working Girl attire?

Miroslava Duma working girl style by Garance Dore

It’s been probably a while I have been looking to talk about the perfect outfit for work, and suddenly today I find this great shot on Garance Doré’s blog. Great ensemble and style from fashionable Miroslava Duma (of the Russian Harper’s Bazaar) in an Executive suit. Not only she looks gorgeous, the attire is suitable for casual and formal occasions. So far the best work ensemble i’ve seen.

Spring 2009 Trends: Ode to geometric Fashion

lookbook style sphere geometric Alexander McQueen

Geometric is probably one of the most popular trend this year while it has been boosted by the two most recent Fashion Week seasons. I loved the lookbook designed by the online store RevolveClothing.com, an ode to geometric Fashion and big flashy belts. The top kimono and radiant silk dress by Alexander McQueen are an absolutely fantastic ensemble, while the WESC dress and pant are the great attire for most occasions.

NYmag: ‘Backstage at Galliano’

Galliano's backstage by Mark Leibowitz - ready-to-wear fashion shows behind the scene

Thanks to NYmag to share this great collection of extraordinary photos. Photographer Mark Leibowitz went backstage at the John Galliano ready-to-wear fashion shows during Fall 2008 and Spring 2009 to shot the chaos that goes on behind the scenes. Mark describes his photo as “Cramped quarters, poor lighting, and a frantic atmosphere became my invitation to deconstruct the pandemonium, revealing elegance and grace,” and I really like the mix of beautiful colors ,and the faces and hats of the models. You can view the photos here.

Département Féminin: Intimate luxury online store

Departement Feminin Store: Intimate luxury online store

If there is a store in this virtual world that I enjoy spending time on for inspiration is Département Féminin. With a very elegant entry that reminds the Parisian dept. stores from the 18th Century, Département Féminin creates an intimate atmosphere and innovative shopping experience online in this luxury fashion world. Luckily for the US consumers, they ship everywhere in the world. I like the large windows displaying the featured products by the owner and the inspirational monthly newsletter with very romantic pictures (as seen below). The items are meticulously selected to provide the shoppers the best from the designers. Unfortunately the store sells women-only clothes, but it won’t be surprising to see a “Département masculin” emerging soon.

Philip Sparks Spring 2009: nostalgic for 50’s youth

Philip Sparks Spring 2009

For a guy like who is nostalgic for the old-style tailored and preppy suits from 1950’s, I found Philip Sparks absolutely calling me. As described in the Spring 2009 Lookbook, the Spring collection is inspired by the preps, the jocks, the slackers and the greasers of 50s youth. Suiting incorporates double pockets, covered buttons and India tape trim on linen and cotton. Casual pieces have a loose, athletic look and cargo pocket details. Ramie knits add a yellow accent to the collection’s white, grey and black palette. (more…)

Diamond leather thigh-high leggings by Rodarte

Rodarte leggings collection

Probably the best leggings I’ve seen this season. From the winners of both the 2008 Swarovski crystal award for emerging design in womenswear and the Swiss textiles award, Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte bring us these leather leggings that are so much more than a diamond in the rough… These laser cut leather thigh-high leggings are hand-crafted with a zipper in the back for a precise fit. Sexy and chic, these leggings would look great with your new Balmain shoes. (more…)
