As the Fashion Week is starting in Milan, it’s hard to forget about the New York Fashion week that just ended. I must say the runway were filled with humble and elegant collections. This year is absolutely not ambitious at all but can be joyful like Isaac Mizrahi’s collection. New fabrics have been celebrated on stage and by all designers such as Vera Wang. And as the week was ending I wanted to really show the marvelous work from Ralph Lauren. Who slimply opened this show with a huge statement: elegance. The evening clothes were beautiful and well executed. The collection is solid, predictable and positive – an answer to the dark times. He opened with classic black dresses and quickly switched to taupe-ish tweed suits, soft pastel knits, and rich velvet dresses, finishing up with antique ivories and golds. It was a not a pretentious collection and meant to comment the current recession period with vintage dresses – easy to reproduce if you have some imagination left over.

Because education will always make a world better, I’m happy to share this information with everyone. Design21 just announced the result of a great design initiative to help increase the awareness of forest sustainability. The competition called “Wood, Paper, Checkmark” would help educate consumers about FSC-certified (FSC stands for Forest Stewardship Council) wood products including home furniture. Not only consumer but also designers to really integrate more sustainable products in their work. The winning team (see below) did a simple and fun campaign which would work hands down. The creatives can be seen here. Let’s hope they launch the campaign soon.
We selected this campaign for its direct simplicity, warm and humorous tone, and how it allows FSC to play in such a huge territory: climate change, indigenous people’s rights, wildlife protection. The everyday items featured “spoons, tables” are world-changing secret weapons that we all can wield in our everyday lives.

As usual in this fierce battle of red carpet fashion, Hollywood’s Mr & Mrs. Smith, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt chose to look simply elegant for tonight’s Oscars ceremony. I think they are by far the best dressed tonight even if Penelope Cruz’s vintage white dress from Balmain is absolutely stunning! On the other hand Beyonce Knowles, Viola Davis and SJP outfits are absolutely bad.
Angelina Jolie is wearing a simple and extremely elegant Elie Saab long dress with almost no accessories except a jewelry by Lorraine Schwartz. Ferragamo shoes and a cute bag from Lana Marks. Brad Pitt is as usual wearing a Tom Ford tux and shoes.
For the one who just came out from their forest, Angelina Jolie is selected as a best actress nominee for “Changeling,” and Brad Pitt, best actor nominee for “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.” Don’t miss all the ceremony, tune into the 2009 Academy Awards live since 8pm EST on ABC. Enjoy!

Nymag just released its new issue with, I must say, a Big surprise. Everyone loves Kate Moss and there is not really enough words to describe her. In a past post about Kate, I said supermodel. After reading the article in this Spring issue of New York magazine – Kate Moss is not only a famous model but described herself also as a woman. A real one. Her deeply affectionate interview unveils a natural woman like everyone, the one with all of a sudden normal problems, feelings and envies. What’s best than a photoshoot without the magic pencil to discover a true beautiful woman. Kate without Photoshop would not be shocking I guess but I can’t really decide if I like it or not. We are all used to see her in the magazine ads or paparazzi photos. Maybe something does not work…
Anyway, she was here to talk about the launch of Topshop store in New York this spring. And no she is not pregnant but she has curves… The Topshop line will be available beginning April 2 on 478 Broadway.

Being in New York City always remind that the weather can be day or light, rainy or sunny. And in the middle of February, you can have a great brunch at Extra Virgin under a sunny sky like yesterday or snowy as in Siberia this Wednesday. And this reminded me that fur coat from Sonia Rykiel’s Fall 2008 Ready-to-Wear. If you want to stay chic under the heavy snow, this is the perfect coat. The model is stunning, she looks like a sexy wolf under her fur.

Over the years, women have always been inspired by menswear – and it won’t end soon. This spring Yves Saint Laurent makes its contribution with the launch of its Unisex line. Fashion designer Stefano Pilati has crafted a collection of androgyny-suits inspired by YSL’s spring 09 men’s collection the legendary Le Smoking tux. The line includes high-waisted shorts, chic trenches, pastel cardigans and silk trousers. It’s stylish, classy, definitely androgynous with a masculine tailoring and some French glamour.
Today through February 21, you can buy Stefano Pilati’s first unisex collection for Yves Saint Laurent at a special pop-up shop in New York. You can visit the store for some inspiration – but looking at the high-priced tags you’d better wait for your stimulus package or dig in your boyfriend’s closet.
YSL Edition Unisex Pop-Up, 55 Great Jones St, NYC, (212) 832-7100

When it comes to inspiration, I’m surprised how most of the people seem to follow the same sites. Well if you discovered Internet today, or just moved out from the jungle and need some styling inspiration: The Sartorialist is your best guide. Scott Schuman the author behind this design blog, has been updating this beautiful daily source of style inspiration since 2005. It’s been a while I have browsed the site that I had to look at each post since this January. I can’t believe how much great outfits I missed. Enjoy!
